Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking a talented Patent Prosecution & Litigation Associate Attorney to join its distinguished team in Charleston, SC. This role will focus on the prosecution and litigation of intellectual property (IP) matters, specifically within the fields of electrical engineering and software. Ideal candidates will bring experience in patent prosecution, excellent legal analysis, and strong communication skills, and will work on cutting-edge technology cases.

Duties:

• Draft and prosecute patent applications, including those in the fields of electrical engineering, software, and telecommunications.
• Manage patent litigation matters, working with clients on infringement and validity issues.
• Perform legal analysis and provide counsel on intellectual property matters.
• Collaborate with other legal professionals in both prosecution and litigation matters.
• Interface with clients and external partners to ensure their IP interests are well-represented.
• Develop strategies for patent portfolios and contribute to the expansion of intellectual property assets.

Requirements:

• At least 2-6 years of legal experience in patent prosecution and/or litigation.
• Experience with electrical engineering, computer science, or a related technical field.
• Membership with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• Experience in chip design or telecommunications (e.g., 3G/4G/5G wireless networks) is highly preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
• Licensed to practice law in South Carolina or able to gain licensure quickly.
• Bar licensure in California is a plus.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• USPTO Admission is required.
• Admission to the South Carolina Bar (or ability to obtain licensure in SC).
• California Bar licensure is a plus.
