Reporting to the Supervising Attorney, the candidate will manage a caseload involving post-conviction relief cases, advising clients on legal rights, drafting legal documents, and representing clients at motion hearings. This role requires collaboration with the Post-Conviction Relief Team and may involve interactions with criminal and immigration practices.

Job Duties:

  • Manage a caseload of post-conviction relief cases, including motions to vacate, expungements, motions to reduce sentences, and early termination of probation.
  • Advise clients on their legal rights and draw up legal documents related to their cases.
  • Attend motion hearings on behalf of clients and provide strategic advice following each hearing.
  • Handle open criminal cases, including arraignments, pre-trials, pleas, and sentencing.
  • Conduct legal research, draft motions, and interview clients.
  • Analyze potential case outcomes based on legal precedents.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys and legal assistants within the firm.
  • Manage workload effectively and provide legal analysis to clients regarding case benefits.
  • Experience in criminal defense or immigration law is preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is strongly preferred.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills and be a proactive team player.

Requirements:

  • JD degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the State Bar of California.
  • Experience handling criminal cases at the state and local levels.
  • Familiarity with post-conviction relief procedures and motions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
