A law firm in Los Angeles, CA, is seeking a Mid-Senior Level Patent Litigation Associate Attorney to join their team. This role is crucial for advancing clients' interests by navigating complex patent disputes, adapting to evolving patent laws, and developing effective litigation strategies. The ideal candidate will bring significant experience in patent litigation, an understanding of technical disciplines, and the ability to manage and mentor junior associates.

Duties:

  • Collaborate with clients to identify and address legal obstacles, ensuring they stay ahead of changes in patent laws and judicial decisions.
  • Develop strategies for navigating competitors' patents and extracting value from clients' intellectual property.
  • Draft and file legal documents, including pleadings, motions, memoranda, and correspondence for state and federal court, arbitration, and mediation proceedings.
  • Manage and execute complex discovery processes, including drafting and responding to discovery requests.
  • Engage in negotiations and communications with opposing counsel to resolve disputes effectively.
  • Prepare for, defend, and conduct depositions, including managing witness preparation and deposition strategy.
  • Prepare for trial, including creating exhibit lists, drafting evidentiary objections, motions in limine, and preparing witnesses.
  • Draft and file Federal Circuit appeal briefs and support appellate litigation as needed.
  • Supervise, mentor, and train junior associates, providing guidance on case management and professional development.

Requirements:

  • 6-8 years of experience in patent litigation, with a strong track record of drafting and responding to pleadings, preparing infringement and invalidity claim charts, and managing Markman and claim construction proceedings.
  • Significant experience in patent-specific fact and expert discovery, inter partes reviews, and overall litigation strategy.
  • Strong academic credentials and demonstrated legal judgment.
  • USPTO admission is highly desired.
  • An undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or substantial experience in litigating related technical matters is preferred.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the USPTO is highly desired.

Skills:

  • Expertise in patent litigation, including complex case management and trial preparation.
  • Proficiency in drafting legal documents and managing discovery processes.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Ability to supervise, mentor, and train junior associates effectively.
  • Familiarity with Federal Circuit appeal processes and appellate litigation.
