A law firm seeks a skilled attorney to join its expanding team in the practice areas of government liability and labor & employment defense. This position is based in Ohio and offers a hybrid remote working environment. The successful candidate will work on a wide range of complex cases, representing public sector entities, insurance carriers, and private clients. The role presents a unique opportunity to gain experience in both civil rights and government liability defense, as well as labor and employment matters. The ideal candidate will have at least 1-3 years of civil litigation experience, with preference given to those with government immunity defense experience.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in civil rights, government liability, and labor & employment cases.
  • Provide legal counsel and defend public and private sector clients in litigation.
  • Handle federal and state employment law cases, including matters arising from Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, and WARN.
  • Work on dispositive motions and engage in motion practice, presenting legal arguments in court.
  • Prepare and respond to written discovery, and take and defend depositions.
  • Communicate effectively with expert witnesses and opposing counsel.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys to develop strategies for complex legal issues.
  • Represent clients in federal and state courts, and before administrative bodies such as the EEOC, NLRB, and the Ohio Civil Rights Commission.
  • Stay current on legal trends and updates in civil rights and employment law.

Requirements:

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in civil litigation.
  • Experience with government immunity defenses is a plus.
  • Strong written and oral advocacy skills.
  • Exceptional research and analytical abilities.
  • Proficiency in handling written discovery, depositions, and expert witness communications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team of senior attorneys.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills with clients, courts, and colleagues.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Bachelor’s degree in any field.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Ohio Bar (or willingness to apply if not already admitted).

Skills:

  • Advanced research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Strong analytical capabilities for evaluating and resolving complex legal matters.
  • Proficiency in civil litigation processes, including motion practice and discovery.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.
  • Effective communication with clients, courts, and opposing counsel.
  • Knowledge of government liability and labor & employment law is preferred.
