Job Overview

A well-established law firm is seeking a skilled and motivated attorney to join its Government Law Practice. This role involves providing legal counsel to local municipalities, including towns, counties, and cities, across the region. The attorney will handle various legal matters, including litigation, compliance, and advisory services, to support local government operations effectively.

Duties

  • Represent and advise local governments in a wide range of legal matters.
  • Attend and participate in government meetings across the region.
  • Handle litigation in Juvenile & Domestic Relations, General District, and Circuit Courts.
  • Provide legal guidance on public sector issues, compliance, and regulations.
  • Draft and review legal documents, ordinances, and contracts.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to support governmental decision-making.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and government officials to address municipal legal challenges.
  • Travel within Virginia as needed for court appearances and meetings.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of litigation experience or experience working with local governments and/or the Department of Social Services.
  • Strong client service and communication abilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Prior experience in public sector or municipal law is preferred.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law in Virginia.
