Job Title: Senior Immigration Attorney

Job Overview:
A law firm in San Jose, CA, is seeking a dedicated Senior Immigration Attorney to join its team of legal professionals. This role focuses on providing expert legal guidance and representation for clients in complex immigration cases. The successful candidate will work closely with clients, manage a robust caseload, and collaborate with other legal professionals to deliver high-quality service.

Duties:

  • Explain immigration concepts and present strategic legal solutions tailored to client needs
  • Represent detained and non-detained clients in removal proceedings at Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals
  • Manage a diverse caseload efficiently and maintain clear, organized records
  • Conduct intake assessments with detained clients in centers and facilities
  • Prepare various immigration applications, including removal defense and family-based petitions
  • Review and adjust immigration applications or packets as needed for accuracy and thoroughness
  • Engage with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community organizations to interpret and present changes in immigration law
  • Conduct strategic consultations with potential clients to assess case strategies
  • Develop case strategies and prepare clients and witnesses for court or USCIS testimony
  • Analyze legal options for clients, identifying any potential benefits in their cases
  • Draft and submit legal briefs across a wide array of immigration-related cases

Requirements:

  • 5-8 years of immigration law experience, with proven success in managing and advancing cases
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work collaboratively with a legal team
  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are preferred but not required
  • Experience with family-based petitions, humanitarian cases, EOIR (Executive Office for Immigration Review), citizenship applications, and other USCIS petitions
  • Familiarity with case management software is preferred

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
  • Active license to practice law in the United States

Certifications:

  • Licensed and in good standing with the state bar
  • Additional certifications in immigration law are beneficial but not required

Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Strategic thinker with attention to detail in legal documentation and proceedings
  • Ability to handle a high caseload with efficiency and precision
  • Proficiency in legal research and case preparation
  • Strong negotiation and advocacy skills
