Job Overview: A well-established Elder Law & Life Care Planning firm on Long Island, New York, is seeking an experienced Associate Attorney with 5+ years of expertise in probate, trust administration, and estate settlement. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, personable, and able to handle a variety of tasks related to probate and estate planning, including drafting petitions, managing asset distribution, and preparing accountings. Additional experience in estate planning and conducting document signings is a plus.

Location:

  • Melville, NY

Duties:

  • Handle all aspects of probate and trust administration
  • Draft and e-file petitions related to probate and trust matters
  • Collect and distribute assets as part of the estate settlement process
  • Prepare accountings for estates and trusts
  • Assist with discovery and 1404 proceedings (experience with this is a plus)
  • Provide legal counsel on estate planning matters
  • Conduct estate planning document signings (experience preferred)
  • Manage client communications and maintain strong relationships

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in probate, trust administration, and estate settlement
  • Experience with drafting petitions, collecting and distributing assets, and preparing accountings
  • Familiarity with discovery and 1404 processes (preferred)
  • Estate planning experience is a plus
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work closely with clients
  • Attention to detail and a high level of professionalism
  • Ability to handle complex legal matters and provide clear guidance

Education:

  • JD from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York State Bar

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of probate, trust administration, and estate settlement processes

  • Familiarity with estate planning documents and procedures
