A law firm seeks an experienced Patent Agent to join its Boston office or work remotely in support of the Boston team. The role involves providing patent prosecution services in software and electronics intellectual property across various industries. Familiarity with software and electronics is essential, and experience in health and medicine is an advantage.

Duties:

  • Prepare, file, and prosecute U.S. and foreign patent applications in software and electronics.
  • Provide strategic guidance on patent prosecution and portfolio development.
  • Collaborate with clients to ensure intellectual property assets are protected effectively.
  • Draft responses to Office Actions issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Conduct patentability assessments and due diligence.
  • Stay updated on changes in patent laws and guidelines to ensure compliance.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in patent prosecution.
  • Strong understanding of software and electronics intellectual property.
  • Familiarity with all aspects of U.S. and foreign patent prosecution.
  • Superior organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing exceptional client service.
  • Creative and strategic approach to patent prosecution.

Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related discipline.

Certifications:

  • Registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is required.

Skills:

  • Exceptional analytical and technical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with clients and colleagues effectively.
  • Detail-oriented and capable of maintaining high standards of accuracy.
  • Experience with patent litigation and industry work is a plus.
