Job Overview:

A well-established law firm is seeking a Post-Conviction Relief Attorney to join their team in Murrieta, CA. This is an exciting opportunity for an attorney with experience in criminal and/or immigration law to gain valuable experience in post-conviction relief matters, including motions to vacate, expungements, and related issues. The Post-Conviction Relief Attorney will work closely with other attorneys and legal staff, report directly to the Supervising Attorney, and manage a caseload of post-conviction relief cases.

Location:

  • Murrieta, CA 

Duties:

  • Advise clients on their legal rights and prepare legal documents for post-conviction relief cases.
  • Handle post-conviction relief matters, including motions to vacate, expungements, motions to reduce sentences, and early termination of probation.
  • Engage in both criminal and immigration law, as this role may involve cases with connections to immigration issues.
  • Attend motion hearings and provide strategic guidance to clients following each hearing.
  • Manage open criminal cases, including arraignments, pre-trials, pleas, and sentencing.
  • Draft motions, attend court appearances, conduct legal research, and interview clients.
  • Analyze case outcomes using legal precedents and provide clients with advice on potential case benefits.
  • Organize and manage a caseload efficiently while ensuring timely progress in each case.

Requirements:

  • Experience:
    • Criminal defense or immigration law experience, especially in post-conviction relief cases.
    • Experience handling criminal cases at the state and local levels.
  • Skills:
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to manage and move cases forward effectively.
    • Excellent legal research, writing, and drafting skills.
    • Collaborative team player who works well with associates.
  • Languages:
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is strongly preferred, but not required.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active bar admission (law graduates awaiting admission may also be considered).
