Environmental and Land Use Associate Attorney

A law firm in Sacramento, CA, is seeking an Environmental and Land Use Associate Attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will possess 3-6 years of substantive experience in environmental law, with a strong focus on land use issues. This role involves working on a range of legal and regulatory matters related to large-scale industrial, residential, and commercial projects. The candidate will collaborate with supervising attorneys and professional staff to manage cases and advocate for clients in various legal forums.

Duties:

• Investigate, develop, and enforce legal and regulatory issues related to the permitting and approval of large-scale projects, including industrial, electric utility, residential, and commercial developments.
• Conduct comprehensive factual investigations and legal research to support case development.
• Review project records, collaborate with scientists, and incorporate technical information into legal arguments.
• Draft, review, and negotiate complex legal documents, including purchase agreements, joint venture agreements, and development services agreements.
• Represent clients before federal and state administrative and regulatory agencies, municipalities, and other local governmental bodies.
• Engage in settlement negotiations and represent clients in court proceedings.
• Participate in general rulemaking and regulatory proceedings, as well as state and local legislative hearings.
• Collaborate with supervising attorneys and professional staff to develop and implement legal strategies.
• Stay current on industry trends and changes in environmental and land use law.

Requirements:

• 3-6 years of substantive experience practicing environmental law in California.
• Experience in land use law and regulatory matters related to large-scale projects.
• Demonstrated commitment to public interest and environmental advocacy.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Admitted to practice law in California.
