Associate Attorney

A law firm in Atlanta is seeking a highly qualified Associate Attorney with expertise in chemistry, particularly organic or medicinal chemistry. The ideal candidate should possess an advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred or M.S. with industry experience), be registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and be admitted to a State Bar (Georgia preferred). Duties:

• Draft and prosecute patent applications related to small molecule pharmaceuticals.
• Conduct patent validity, non-infringement, and freedom-to-operate analyses.
• Support IP due diligences, patent litigations, and post-grant proceedings (IPR, PGR, interferences).
• Collaborate with clients to understand their intellectual property needs.
• Take on significant responsibility in legal research and analysis.
• Work with legal teams on various intellectual property matters.

Requirements:

• Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred, or M.S. with several years of industry experience) in chemistry, with a focus on organic or medicinal chemistry.
• Registration to practice at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• Admission to a State Bar, with preference for Georgia.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Experience:

• 2+ years of substantive experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
