Defense Associate Attorney

A law firm in Roseland, NJ, is seeking a Defense Associate Attorney with 1 to 5 years of experience in handling professional liability claims. The successful candidate will manage their own caseload under the guidance of senior partners and will be involved in various aspects of litigation, including drafting legal documents, conducting depositions, and participating in trials. The ideal candidate will possess strong written and oral communication skills, exceptional organizational abilities, and familiarity with NJ & NY Civil Court Rules.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage an assigned caseload with oversight from senior partners.
• Draft motions, pleadings, and responses to discovery requests.
• Conduct legal research and prepare comprehensive memorandums.
• Attend and represent clients at hearings and court conferences.
• Conduct and defend depositions; attend inspections as needed.
• Consult with and manage expert witnesses to support case strategies.
• Participate in mediations and negotiate settlements.
• Prepare for and attend trials, including developing trial strategies and presenting cases.

Requirements:

• 1 to 5 years of experience handling professional liability claims.
• Superior written and oral communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Familiarity with NJ & NY Civil Court Rules and procedures.
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Education:

• Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Admitted to practice law in New Jersey (NJ).
• Admitted to practice law in New York (NY) is a plus.

Skills:

• Excellent drafting skills for legal documents, including motions and pleadings.
• Strong research and writing abilities for legal memorandums.
• Effective communication skills for depositions, hearings, and trials.
• Proficiency in managing and consulting with expert witnesses.
• Ability to attend mediations and negotiate favorable settlements.
• Familiarity with NJ & NY Civil Court Rules and litigation procedures.
