Job Overview
A highly regarded AV-rated law firm in Northern New Jersey is seeking an experienced Environmental Law Attorney to join its team. This position is suited for an attorney with 7–15 years of experience across a broad range of environmental matters, including regulatory compliance, litigation, remediation, enforcement, insurance coverage, and environmental aspects of corporate and real estate transactions. This role offers the opportunity to work with a sophisticated client base on complex matters at both state and federal levels.

Location

  • Montvale, NJ

Duties

  • Advise clients on state and federal environmental regulations and compliance requirements

  • Represent clients in environmental litigation and administrative proceedings

  • Handle environmental due diligence and negotiations in corporate and real estate transactions

  • Manage remediation and enforcement actions under CERCLA, RCRA, and other environmental statutes

  • Provide counsel on insurance coverage and recovery related to environmental claims

  • Draft and review environmental provisions in commercial contracts and settlement agreements

  • Maintain regular communication with clients to provide strategic legal advice

  • Collaborate with internal teams and outside consultants on technical and scientific aspects of environmental matters

Requirements

  • 7–15 years of experience in environmental law

  • Experience with litigation, compliance counseling, regulatory matters, and environmental aspects of transactions

  • Familiarity with New Jersey DEP and U.S. EPA regulations and enforcement actions

  • Portable book of business (preferred but not required)

  • Ability to manage a diverse caseload and maintain client relationships

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • Admission to practice law in the State of New Jersey (required)

  • Additional bar admissions (a plus)

Skills

  • Strong legal research, analysis, and writing skills

  • Effective communication and negotiation abilities

  • Ability to manage complex environmental issues with scientific or technical components

  • Skilled in regulatory interpretation and risk assessment

  • Proven success in handling both litigation and transactional matters
