Job Overview:
A well-established law firm is seeking a highly qualified Corporate/Employment Counsel to join its Corporate Department. This role will focus on employment and labor matters, advising clients on a wide range of employment-related compliance issues, including worker classification, wage and hour laws, and collective bargaining. The position offers an opportunity for experienced attorneys to contribute to a dynamic legal team and handle complex, high-level employment law matters for prominent clients.

Location:

  • Chicago, IL.

Duties:

  • Advise clients on employment-related compliance, including worker classification, wage and hour laws, immigration issues, union and collective bargaining, employment policies, handbooks, and equal opportunity laws.

  • Draft and review employment agreements, including separation agreements.

  • Provide guidance on reductions-in-force and WARN Act matters.

  • Advise on restrictive covenants and related matters.

  • Conduct employment-related due diligence and handle employment-related representations and warranties in transaction documents.

  • Maintain strong client relationships while providing expert legal advice.

  • Work collaboratively with the corporate department on employment-related issues in corporate transactions.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 8 years of employment law experience at a nationally recognized law firm.

  • Experience advising on worker classification, wage and hour issues, immigration, and union-related matters.

  • Proven ability to draft and negotiate employment agreements, separation agreements, and restrictive covenants.

  • Experience in conducting employment-related due diligence for corporate transactions is a plus.

  • Excellent academic credentials and strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and a client-focused work ethic.

  • Bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction where the candidate will be based.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and across various departments.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction where the candidate will be based.

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of employment law, including wage and hour laws, employee benefits, and union issues.

  • Strong drafting skills, especially for employment agreements and separation agreements.

  • Excellent communication and client service skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage complex matters with attention to detail.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
