Job Overview:
A reputable law firm is seeking a Senior Patent Litigation Associate or Counsel with 7-10 years of experience to join its Intellectual Property practice group. This position offers the opportunity to handle complex patent litigation matters, particularly those involving computer, software, wireless device, or medical device technologies. The ideal candidate will have significant experience with Patent Trial & Appeal Board (PTAB) practice and a proven ability to manage inter partes reviews (IPRs) from start to finish. Registration to practice before the USPTO is required. Strong academic credentials, excellent writing and research skills, and the ability to cultivate relationships with clients and colleagues in a team-oriented environment are essential.

Location:

  • Washington, D.C.

Duties:

  • Handle patent litigation matters involving complex technologies, including computer, software, wireless devices, and medical devices.
  • Manage inter partes reviews (IPRs) and Patent Trial & Appeal Board (PTAB) proceedings from start to finish.
  • Provide strategic legal advice on patent litigation and PTAB practice to clients.
  • Draft and file motions, pleadings, discovery requests, and other legal documents related to patent litigation.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys to develop case strategies and manage litigation matters.
  • Lead and mentor junior associates and support staff on case matters.
  • Engage in settlement negotiations and client communications.
  • Represent clients in hearings, depositions, and trial proceedings.

Requirements:

  • 7-10 years of experience in patent litigation, including significant PTAB and IPR experience.
  • Experience with patent litigation in the areas of computer, software, wireless device, or medical device technologies.
  • Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Strong academic credentials.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to independently manage and prioritize complex litigation matters.
  • Strong client relationship skills and ability to collaborate in a team-oriented environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Bar in the relevant state(s).
  • Registration to practice before the USPTO is required.

Skills:

  • Expertise in patent litigation, particularly in PTAB and IPR proceedings.
  • Technical knowledge in computer, software, wireless device, or medical device technologies.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and manage complex legal issues.
