A law firm is seeking a Patent Agent with expertise in Biological Sciences to join its team. The role involves drafting and prosecuting patent applications, conducting patent validity and non-infringement analyses, and engaging in IP due diligence and post-grant proceedings. The position offers an opportunity to work on advanced technologies in the life sciences, including gene editing, cellular therapies, antibody-based therapeutics, and molecular diagnostics. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of patent prosecution experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Location:

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications in the biological sciences sector
  • Conduct patent validity, non-infringement, and freedom-to-operate analyses
  • Participate in IP due diligence and patent litigation matters
  • Manage post-grant proceedings such as IPR, PGR, and interferences
  • Advise clients on IP matters related to cutting-edge life sciences technologies
  • Work collaboratively with clients and team members on strategic IP initiatives

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of substantive patent experience (3-5 years preferred)
  • Advanced degree in Biological Sciences (Ph.D. preferred, or M.S. with industry experience)
  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
  • Strong academic background with a demonstrated interest in biological sciences
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage substantial responsibility and work independently
  • Desire to collaborate within a team environment and interact with clients

Education:

  • Ph.D. or M.S. in Biological Sciences (e.g., Biology, Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Immunology, Virology)

Certifications:

  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office

Skills:

  • Expertise in patent prosecution and IP analysis within biological sciences
  • Strong understanding of cutting-edge technologies in life sciences (e.g., gene editing, cellular therapies)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills
