Job Overview:

A well-established law firm is seeking a Post-Conviction Relief Attorney to join their growing team in Victorville, CA. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with experience in criminal defense and/or immigration law to gain valuable experience in post-conviction relief matters, including motions to vacate, expungements, and more. The attorney will report to the Supervising Attorney and work collaboratively with the team to handle various post-conviction relief cases. The role offers potential for professional growth in both criminal and immigration law fields.

Location:

  • Victorville, CA 

Duties:

  • Advise clients on their legal rights and draft legal documents related to post-conviction relief cases.
  • Handle post-conviction relief cases, including motions to vacate, expungements, motions to reduce sentences, and early termination of probation.
  • Engage in immigration law matters related to post-conviction relief cases, interacting with both criminal and immigration practices.
  • Attend motion hearings on behalf of clients and provide strategic advice following each hearing.
  • Manage open criminal cases, including arraignments, pre-trials, pleas, and sentencing on behalf of other attorneys.
  • Manage court appearances, draft motions, interview clients, and perform legal research.
  • Analyze probable outcomes of cases based on legal precedents and provide clients with case benefits.
  • Organize and manage a caseload efficiently.

Requirements:

  • Experience:
    • Criminal defense or immigration law experience, particularly in post-conviction relief matters.
    • Experience handling criminal cases at the state and local level.
  • Skills:
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to manage caseloads and move cases forward efficiently.
    • Detail-oriented with excellent legal research and writing abilities.
    • Team player who works well with other associates.
  • Languages:
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active bar admission (law graduates awaiting admission may also be considered).
