Job Overview
A prominent law firm is currently seeking an associate to join its Mass Torts and Industry-Wide Litigation team, specifically focusing on asbestos litigation. This role offers an exciting opportunity to represent asbestos defendants in various industries across state and federal courts nationwide, while collaborating with colleagues from multiple offices. The successful candidate will contribute to the development and execution of defense strategies in complex litigation.

Location

  • Stamford, CT

Duties

  • Regularly take and defend depositions.
  • Research legal issues and work with senior attorneys to develop defense strategies.
  • Manage claims from initiation to resolution through dismissal, settlement, motion practice, or trial.
  • Draft memoranda, pleadings, motions, and other legal documents.
  • Represent clients during courtroom appearances.
  • Collaborate with co-counsel in various jurisdictions to coordinate case strategy.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of deposition and courtroom experience in toxic tort matters; experience in asbestos defense preferred.
  • Admission to the New York Bar required.
  • Admission to the Connecticut, Massachusetts, and/or New Jersey Bar preferred (or ability to waive into NJ).
  • Proficiency in Zoom, MS Teams, and other video conferencing platforms for depositions and court conferences.
  • Willingness to travel for in-person depositions and court conferences, including overnight travel as needed.
  • Strong research, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Quick comprehension of new information and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Professional, cooperative, positive, and flexible attitude.
  • Military experience is welcomed.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to the New York Bar required.
  • Admission to the Connecticut, Massachusetts, and/or New Jersey Bar preferred (or ability to waive into NJ).

Skills

  • Expertise in toxic tort litigation, especially asbestos defense.
  • Strong deposition and courtroom skills.
  • Proficient in virtual communication tools (Zoom, MS Teams).
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and communication abilities.
