Job Title: Patent Prosecution Technical Advisor/Patent Agent

Job Overview: A law firm in Boston, MA, is seeking a motivated Patent Prosecution Technical Advisor or Patent Agent with expertise in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills and prior experience in patent prosecution, particularly in hardware, software, database technology, artificial intelligence, wireless, and image/signal processing.

Job Duties:

  • Reviewing invention disclosure documents and conducting invention disclosure meetings
  • Conducting prior art searches, reviewing references, and analyzing patentability
  • Drafting patent applications by USPTO guidelines
  • Reviewing USPTO office actions, formulating response strategies, conducting examiner interviews, and drafting and filing responses
  • Managing U.S. and foreign dockets to ensure compliance with deadlines
  • Analyzing patents for due diligence and/or freedom to operate analyses
  • Collaborating with attorneys and clients to assess patent strategies and objectives

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering
  • Patent prosecution experience in one or more of the following technologies: hardware and devices, software, database technology, artificial intelligence, wireless, and image and/or signal processing
  • Prior work experience in a law firm is preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of professionalism in working with demanding clients
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple competing priorities and responsibilities
  • Highly organized with extreme attention to detail
  • Strong collaborative skills and ability to work effectively in team settings

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering
  • Patent Agent registration or eligibility is preferred but not required

Skills:

  • Proficiency in conducting prior art searches and analyzing patentability
  • Strong drafting skills for patent applications and responses to office actions
  • Familiarity with USPTO procedures and regulations
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and patent-related software tools
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
