Job Overview:

A law firm in Houston, TX, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced BIS, OFAC, and International Trade Lawyer. This role involves extensive work with U.S. export controls, sanctions, customs regulations, and other international trade-related matters. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in counseling, compliance, and investigations, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage complex regulatory issues.

Duties:

  • Provide expert legal counsel on U.S. export controls (BIS), sanctions (OFAC), customs (including tariffs), and international trade regulations.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops for clients and internal teams on compliance matters and regulatory changes.
  • Manage licensing applications and provide legal opinions related to international trade.
  • Handle filings and compliance audits to ensure adherence to applicable regulations.
  • Conduct internal investigations and respond to government enforcement actions.
  • Develop and implement compliance policies and procedures tailored to international trade and sanctions requirements.
  • Collaborate with clients to address and resolve issues related to U.S. export controls, sanctions, and customs regulations.
  • Engage in investigations related to other areas, such as FCPA and national security matters (CFIUS).

Requirements:

  • Active member of the DC Bar.
  • Extensive experience with U.S. export controls (BIS), sanctions (OFAC), customs regulations, and international trade matters.
  • Proven track record in counseling, compliance audits, internal investigations, and responding to government enforcement actions.
  • Strong academic credentials from a top-tier law school with a U.S. JD.
  • Prior experience working in a large law firm is preferred.
  • Experience with other investigations, such as FCPA and national security matters (CFIUS), is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from a top-tier U.S. law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the DC Bar.
