Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking an experienced Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Associate Attorney with 5-7 years of experience. The firm offers the opportunity to work on complex privacy litigation and transactional matters, primarily in the areas of state and federal privacy laws, such as CCPA, GLBA, and HIPAA. This position is ideal for a candidate with experience in privacy-related litigation, vendor agreement drafting, and breach response. The role is available in Chicago or Dallas, with the possibility of consideration for other office locations. A hybrid work schedule with weekly in-office expectations is offered.

Location:

  • Houston, TX

Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel on compliance with privacy and cybersecurity laws (e.g., CCPA, GLBA, HIPAA, state biometric laws)
  • Handle privacy-related litigation, including class action cases
  • Draft and negotiate vendor and customer service agreements
  • Support breach response efforts and help manage risk
  • Advise clients on privacy compliance strategies, risk mitigation, and regulatory issues
  • Collaborate with partners and colleagues on privacy and cybersecurity matters
  • Contribute to business development and maintain client relationships
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and legal research

Requirements:

  • 5-7 years of experience in data privacy and cybersecurity law
  • Significant experience in privacy litigation or transactional work, particularly vendor and service agreement drafting
  • Expertise in state and federal privacy laws, including CCPA, GLBA, HIPAA, and other regulations
  • Experience with breach response, compliance counseling, and risk management
  • Admission to the State Bar
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and writing skills
  • Proven ability to manage complex legal matters and client relationships

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the State Bar
  • CIPP/US certification is a plus, but not required

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of data privacy and cybersecurity law
  • Strong litigation and transactional drafting experience
  • Expertise in breach response, risk management, and compliance counseling
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
