A law firm in Bakersfield, CA, is seeking an Entry-Level Immigration Attorney to join its team. Reporting to the Managing Immigration Attorney, the candidate will manage a caseload, interact with clients, and collaborate with the Immigration Team of Attorneys and legal assistants. The role requires explaining immigration concepts, representing individuals in removal proceedings, preparing immigration applications, and staying updated on changes in immigration law.

 

Duties:

  • Explain immigration concepts and provide strategic solutions to clients.
  • Represent non-detained and detained individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals.
  • Manage a workload of diverse immigration cases.
  • Visit and conduct intakes with detained individuals at centers.
  • Prepare various immigration applications, including removal defense and family-based immigration petitions.
  • Review and adjust immigration applications/packets as necessary.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community-based organizations on changes in immigration law.
  • Meet with potential clients for strategic immigration consultations and determine necessary strategies.
  • Develop strategies and prepare clients/witnesses for court/USCIS testimony.
  • Provide legal analysis for clients to determine potential case benefits.
  • Prepare and submit legal briefs for a variety of immigration cases.

 

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated interest in immigration law through Law School clinics, volunteer work, or internships.
  • Juris Doctorate degree.
  • Active Bar admission (law graduates awaiting admission will also be considered).
  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage a caseload and move legal cases forward.
  • Experience with Case Management Software is preferred.

 

Education:

Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.

 

Certifications:

Active Bar admission (or awaiting admission).

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of organization and attention to detail.
