Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking an experienced Patent Agent to join their dynamic team in the Patent Prosecution & Litigation practice area, focusing on the Chemical, Pharma, and Biotech industries. This position can be based in any of the firm's offices, with a strong preference for candidates in southeastern locations including Tysons Corner, VA. The successful candidate will be responsible for drafting patent applications and handling patent prosecution matters, bringing a keen understanding of intellectual property law to innovative client needs.

Duties:

• Draft and prosecute patent applications related to the Chemical, Pharma, and Biotech sectors
• Provide technical analysis and legal advice on patentability, patent infringement, and freedom-to-operate opinions
• Collaborate with clients to develop strategies for protecting their innovations
• Assist in patent litigation, including research, evidence gathering, and drafting motions
• Conduct prior art searches and patentability assessments
• Engage in client meetings to discuss patent portfolios and IP strategies
• Maintain and update detailed records of patent prosecution processes

Requirements:

• A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in patent prosecution
• Experience with intellectual property law, particularly in patent prosecution, is essential
• Expertise in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related fields
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to distill complex technical concepts into clear legal arguments
• Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related field
• Advanced degrees (Master’s, Ph.D.) or relevant prior experience are highly preferred

Skills:

• Ability to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and external partners
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Proficiency with patent prosecution software and patent databases
• Experience with patent litigation is a plus
