Job Overview:
A prominent law firm is seeking a mid-level associate to join its dynamic Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group. This is a fantastic opportunity for an attorney with experience in patent prosecution, particularly in drafting applications. The ideal candidate will have a background in mechanical or electrical engineering, or a similar technical field, with an interest in expanding their expertise in intellectual property law.

Duties:

  • Draft and file patent applications for clients in various technical fields.
  • Assist with patent prosecution and litigation matters, including responding to office actions and managing client communications.
  • Conduct patentability, freedom-to-operate, and invalidity searches.
  • Provide strategic counsel on patent portfolio management and patentability issues.
  • Support patent litigation, including discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation.
  • Collaborate with other legal professionals to ensure efficient case management and client satisfaction.
  • Stay updated on relevant laws, trends, and technological advancements in intellectual property.

Requirements:

  • 3-6 years of experience in patent prosecution.
  • Proven experience in drafting patent applications.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to think critically and strategically about complex legal and technical issues.
  • Must be admitted to the North Carolina State Bar.
  • USPTO registration is required.
  • A background in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a similar technical field.
  • A strong academic record and organizational skills are essential.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the North Carolina State Bar.
  • USPTO registration.

Skills:
