A law firm seeks a skilled IP Litigation Associate with 2-4 years of experience to join its Washington, D.C. office. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of patent litigation, with exposure to all stages of the litigation process, including trials, motions, depositions, and expert reports. A strong interest in advancing within the firm’s litigation department and the ability to thrive in a collaborative and dynamic environment are essential.

Duties:

  • Lead and assist in the preparation and execution of intellectual property litigation, specifically patent litigation.
  • Manage the discovery process, including drafting and responding to discovery requests.
  • Handle all aspects of trial preparation, including motions, expert reports, and depositions.
  • Represent clients in hearings, depositions, and pre-trial proceedings.
  • Collaborate closely with senior attorneys and partners to develop legal strategies.
  • Support and contribute to the firm’s business development initiatives, including preparing client presentations and proposals.
  • Assist in preparing detailed legal briefs, including motions and memoranda.
  • Work with clients to understand their business goals and provide sound legal advice.
  • Keep current with changes in patent law, technology, and industry standards.

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of experience in patent litigation, including exposure to trial procedures and discovery management.
  • Experience working with expert witnesses and handling motions and depositions is highly preferred.
  • Prior experience with the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) is an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to convey complex legal concepts to clients and stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Interest in advancing within a highly collaborative firm setting.

Education:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • An undergraduate science degree is preferred.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the DC State Bar, or eligibility to gain admission to the DC Bar, is required.

Skills:

  • Strong academic credentials.
  • Experience with patent litigation, especially trial experience, and discovery management.
  • Proficiency with legal research tools and case management software.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also managing individual responsibilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in creating legal strategies and providing sound advice to clients.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information professionally.
