Job Overview:
A prominent law firm is seeking an Energy Associate with 1-4 years of experience to join its Washington, D.C. office. This role requires strong knowledge of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) practice and a background in oil/natural gas pipeline regulation or regulated energy markets. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with strong writing and interpersonal skills, capable of advising clients on energy market participation, capacity market issues, and power supply arrangements.

Location:

  • Washington, D.C.

Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel on energy market and capacity market participation.
  • Advise clients regarding FERC matters, oil/natural gas pipeline regulation, and ISO/RTO market stakeholder proceedings.
  • Draft legal documents, including briefs and memoranda, related to energy regulation and disputes.
  • Conduct research on regulated energy markets and assist with compliance and litigation matters.
  • Collaborate with clients to address issues related to power supply arrangements.
  • Participate in client meetings, negotiations, and strategy development.

Requirements:

  • 1-4 years of experience in energy law, particularly in FERC practice or oil/natural gas pipeline regulation.
  • Knowledge of ISO/RTO market stakeholder proceedings and regulated energy markets.
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Admission to the District of Columbia Bar.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the District of Columbia Bar.

Skills:

  • Expertise in FERC practice and regulated energy markets.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Strong client communication and advisory skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience in advising clients on energy market participation and power supply arrangements.
