A law firm seeks an experienced and self-motivated attorney for a remote, full-time position, specializing in consumer debt defense. The successful candidate will be licensed in Minnesota and responsible for representing clients in debt collection lawsuits. This role offers a flexible work environment and minimal in-court appearances, with a focus on cost-effective resolution strategies for consumer clients.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in debt collection cases initiated by original creditors or debt buyers.
  • Provide limited-scope legal assistance, including reviewing and editing pro se answer drafts prepared by paralegals.
  • Focus on settlement and voluntary payment arrangements with creditors, as clients typically engage in debt resolution programs.
  • Handle occasional complex litigation matters and hearings, with the option to attend in person or delegate to local coverage counsel.
  • Assist clients with case strategy, ensuring effective communication and resolution.
  • Maintain a caseload while managing legal documents, court filings, and client communications.

Requirements:

  • Active license to practice law in Minnesota (licensure in Wisconsin or Michigan is a plus).
  • A minimum of 5 years of civil litigation experience.
  • Preferred experience in consumer debt defense and/or collections.
  • Ability to work remotely and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfort with reviewing and editing legal documents and collaborating with paralegals.
  • Proven ability to manage client relationships and meet deadlines effectively.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the Minnesota State Bar (additional licenses in Wisconsin or Michigan are preferred).

  • Strong civil litigation and debt defense experience.
  • Ability to analyze complex legal issues and provide effective solutions.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
