Job Overview:
A prominent law firm in San Jose, CA, is seeking a dedicated and motivated Post-Conviction Relief Attorney. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in both criminal and immigration law while contributing to meaningful post-conviction relief work. The ideal candidate will have previous litigation or appellate experience and will be responsible for managing post-conviction relief cases, including motions to vacate, expungements, and early termination of probation. The attorney will interact with clients, provide strategic legal advice, and collaborate with a team of legal professionals to ensure the best outcomes for clients.

Location:

  • San Jose, CA

Duties:

  • Advise clients on their legal rights and prepare relevant legal documents for their cases.
  • Handle post-conviction relief cases, including motions to vacate, expungements, and motions to reduce or terminate probation.
  • Participate in hearings and provide strategic advice to clients after each motion hearing.
  • Manage open criminal cases, including arraignments, pre-trials, pleas, and sentencing on behalf of other attorneys.
  • Conduct court appearances, draft motions, and perform legal research.
  • Analyze legal precedents to predict case outcomes and offer sound legal counsel.
  • Work with clients to assess case benefits and determine the best course of action.
  • Collaborate with a team of attorneys and legal assistants to manage caseloads and ensure efficient case handling.

Requirements:

  • Experience in criminal defense or immigration law.
  • Experience handling criminal cases at the state and local levels.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other attorneys and legal staff.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases efficiently and independently.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the state bar (California) or actively seeking admission.

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Experience in criminal defense and/or immigration law.
  • Ability to manage a diverse caseload effectively.
  • Proficient in legal document preparation and court procedures.
  • Excellent communication and client interaction skills.
