A law firm in New York City is seeking a detail-oriented Patent Agent to join its team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, or a related field and will be responsible for drafting and prosecuting patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This role requires significant experience in patent prosecution, strong analytical and writing skills, and the ability to manage multiple assignments efficiently.

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Support due diligence efforts related to patent prosecution and intellectual property.
  • Review and analyze scientific data and technical documents to prepare patent filings.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and clients to gather information and address any issues related to patent applications.
  • Ensure compliance with all USPTO regulations and requirements.
  • Manage deadlines and prioritize assignments from multiple partners and clients.
  • Provide technical expertise and support in patent strategy and portfolio management.

Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Registration to practice in front of the USPTO.
  • Patent Bar eligibility; licensure to practice law in the respective state is a plus.
  • 2-4 years of experience in patent prosecution, leveraging technical expertise to assist clients in protecting their technology.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to handle multiple deadlines and assignments.
  • Excellent attention to detail, writing skills, and analytical abilities.

Education:

  • Master’s Degree or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, or a related field.

Certifications:

  • Registration to practice in front of the USPTO.
  • Patent Bar eligibility.
  • State Bar licensure (if applicable).

Skills:

  • Proficiency in drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Strong analytical and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
