Duties

  • Represent clients in criminal defense cases, advocating zealously for adults and juveniles accused of various offenses
  • Lead cases from inception through trial, including client interfacing, case strategy, and courtroom representation
  • Draft legal documents including motions, pleadings, discovery demands, and client correspondence
  • Collaborate with a support team, delegating tasks effectively to achieve the best outcomes for clients
  • Conduct thorough legal research to build strong defense strategies
  • Maintain a litigation schedule and meet case deadlines
  • Develop and implement trial strategies tailored to client goals

Requirements

  • Admission to the Michigan State Bar (required)
  • Minimum of 3 years of legal experience in criminal defense or equivalent
  • Proven jury trial experience or formal trial training is highly preferred
  • Willingness to travel throughout Michigan and occasionally out of state for training
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment, displaying collaboration and leadership

Education

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
  • Recent law graduates waiting for bar results may be considered if they have experience in a prosecutor’s office, judicial clerkship, or public defender’s office
