A law firm seeks a skilled and experienced Settlement Counsel to manage the post-settlement process across multiple practice areas. This role involves drafting and reviewing settlement agreements, addressing Minor’s Compromise and lien issues, and ensuring compliance with settlement terms. The ideal candidate will possess extensive litigation experience, attention to detail, and expertise in post-settlement procedures. This is a hybrid position based in San Diego, California.

Duties

  • Draft, review, and finalize settlement agreements, releases, and related legal documents.
  • Oversee the execution of settlement terms, including disbursement of funds, adherence to deadlines, and contractual obligations.
  • Manage settlements involving minors, including obtaining court approvals and coordinating with guardians or custodians.
  • Address lien issues by overseeing negotiations with lienholders and ensuring proper documentation and payments.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to explain settlement procedures, progress, and post-settlement requirements.
  • Collaborate with litigation teams, paralegals, and financial departments to facilitate the settlement process.
  • Ensure all settlement activities comply with applicable federal and state laws, ethical standards, and firm policies.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of settlement documents and correspondence.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to streamline and improve the settlement process.

Requirements

  • 10–15 years of experience in civil litigation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of post-settlement procedures.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • High ethical standards and professionalism.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law in California.
