Trial Attorney

A law firm in Costa Mesa, CA is seeking a motivated Trial Attorney to assist in managing multiple cases under the guidance of a Senior Attorney. The role involves preparing litigation reports, drafting legal documents, making court appearances, and contributing to case strategy development.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist the Senior Attorney in managing a caseload involving Strategy, Motions, Trial Preparation, Low-level Depositions, Low-level Trials & Mediations, and Research.
• Prepare litigation reports and risk assessments.
• Draft legal documents including complaints, pleadings, and discovery responses.
• Make court appearances on behalf of clients.
• Attend hearings, depositions, and other court proceedings.
• Conduct legal research and provide case evaluation and legal support.
• Assist in negotiation of low-level settlements and attend mediations.
• Build and maintain relationships with clients and experts.
• Stay informed about current legislation relevant to cases.
• Interview, train, mentor, and assist in managing legal staff as needed.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Active license to practice law in California and membership in the State Bar.
• 2+ years of experience practicing law, preferably in litigation.
• Experience in specific areas of law relevant to the firm's practice areas.
• Strong interpersonal, critical thinking, and public speaking skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with case management software and legal research databases.
