A law firm seeks a driven and talented Associate Attorney to join its growing Construction Law practice in Farmington Hills, MI. The successful candidate will play a key role in advising clients on complex construction law matters, representing municipalities, owners, developers, and contractors throughout the lifecycle of major development projects. This is a hybrid position offering flexibility with the opportunity to engage in high-profile projects and provide strategic legal counsel in one of the most respected construction law teams in Michigan.

Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel on all aspects of construction and development projects, including real estate, financing, zoning, insurance, and environmental matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts related to development and construction.
  • Assist in planning and managing large, multifaceted construction projects.
  • Resolve disputes through meetings, alternative dispute resolution (ADR), and litigation.
  • Analyze project specifications to ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Oversee claims, warranty submissions, and bond issues related to construction projects.
  • Represent clients in construction defect cases involving architects, engineers, and contractors.
  • Prepare and file construction liens and manage lien foreclosure litigation.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and clients to address complex legal issues and strategies.

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of experience in construction law, preferably with exposure to large-scale commercial projects.
  • Strong experience in drafting, negotiating, and reviewing contracts related to construction and development.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a keen attention to detail and organization.
  • Ability to quickly understand and address complex technical and legal issues.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities and effective decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines and deliverables.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the Michigan State Bar.

  • Strong understanding of construction law, including contracts, claims, and disputes.
