Job Overview: A law firm seeks a skilled Defense Litigation Associate to join a high-energy, collaborative team in Atlanta, GA. This position offers an opportunity to engage in complex litigation across a variety of cases, including professional liability, general liability, and commercial coverage matters. The role involves immersion in all phases of litigation, from case investigation and pre-suit analysis through mediation, arbitration, trial, and appeal, providing a dynamic experience for an attorney passionate about defense litigation.

Duties:

  • Analyze and synthesize legal documents to build case strategies.
  • Conduct in-depth legal research, including background checks on people, businesses, and locations relevant to cases.
  • Evaluate cases to strategically develop defense approaches.
  • Hold client meetings to discuss and recommend legal strategies.
  • Investigate facts, plan case direction, and prepare and conduct depositions.
  • Draft and argue motions in court.
  • Handle hearings, and mediations, and prepare witnesses and corporate representatives for trial.
  • Draft mediation summaries to support defense arguments.
  • Provide trial and appellate briefing.

Requirements:

  • Active bar license and good standing in the State of Georgia.
  • Strong analytical, research, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Proficiency in writing, with superior attention to detail and communication skills.
  • 4-6 years of defense litigation experience, preferably in insurance defense, professional liability, or coverage litigation.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a high-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and meeting strict deadlines.
  • Self-starter attitude with the capacity to manage multiple projects and take initiative.
  • Client-focused mindset with a solution-driven approach.
  • Ability to work independently within a team-oriented environment.
  • Financial record review and interpretation skills are a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed and in good standing to practice law in Georgia.
