A law firm in Sherman Oaks is seeking a skilled Coverage/Bad Faith Litigation Associate Attorney to handle a variety of insurance coverage and bad faith litigation matters. The role involves analyzing coverage issues, writing opinions, defending declaratory relief actions, and handling bad faith claims.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze coverage issues and provide coverage opinions for commercial, personal, and specialty lines insurers.
  • Draft reservations of rights and coverage disclaimer letters.
  • Prosecute and defend insurance declaratory relief actions.
  • Defend insurance bad faith actions and advise on bad faith exposure.
  • Research and draft motions for summary judgment and other pleadings.
  • Manage all phases of coverage and bad faith-related discovery, including written discovery and depositions.
  • Handle coverage and bad faith settlement procedures, including mediations.
  • Review insurance policies and advise clients on coverage issues related to first-party property claims, general liability, errors and omissions liability, or health liability.
  • Draft legal documents such as opinion letters, briefs, motions, and discovery requests.

 

Requirements:

  • 3-10 years of experience in insurance coverage and bad faith litigation.
  • Strong experience with all aspects of coverage and bad faith-related litigation, including discovery and trial preparation.
  • Admission to the California State Bar in good standing.
  • Experience with insurance defense litigation is preferred.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Superior writing and research abilities; applicants are encouraged to submit a writing sample.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with clients, team members, and partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and software.

 

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the California State Bar.
  • Certification or coursework in insurance law or related field is a plus.
