A law firm based in Tampa, FL is seeking a Business Litigation Associate Attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will be admitted to practice in Florida and have 3-5 years of experience in business litigation, with a focus on medical malpractice, laboratory medicine, and professional liability matters. The role requires strong research and writing skills, a willingness to learn and develop litigation skills, and the ability to handle a variety of complex cases from pre-trial through trial.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Represent clients in business litigation matters, including medical malpractice, laboratory medicine, and professional liability cases.
  • Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, and other legal documents.
  • Take and defend depositions of fact and expert witnesses.
  • Argue motions in federal and state court and represent clients during hearings and trials.
  • Collaborate with clients, experts, and other attorneys to prepare cases for trial.
  • Manage case files from inception through resolution, ensuring all deadlines are met and procedural requirements are fulfilled.
  • Prepare and present case strategies and recommendations to clients and senior attorneys.
  • Analyze complex legal issues and provide strategic guidance to clients.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and opposing counsel.
  • Stay current with developments in business litigation law and relevant case law.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to practice law in Florida.
  • 3-5 years of experience in business litigation, with a focus on medical malpractice, laboratory medicine, and professional liability matters.
  • Clerkship and employment litigation experience are preferred.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Experience taking and defending depositions, arguing motions, and preparing for trial.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other attorneys and staff.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proven ability to handle a caseload and meet deadlines effectively.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Florida Bar and licensed to practice in Florida.

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and writing abilities.
  • Proficiency in taking and defending depositions, arguing motions, and preparing for trial.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • Proficiency with legal research tools such as Westlaw and Lexis-Nexis.
  • Familiarity with case management software and court procedures.
