A law firm seeks a mid-level associate (3-8 years of experience) to join its Electrical & Computer Technologies practice in Boston. This is a unique opportunity for a candidate to work on cutting-edge innovations across both the Electrical & Computer Technologies and Biotechnology sectors. The role involves engaging with clients and inventors throughout the patent process, including preparation, filing, prosecution, and analysis of patent applications.

Duties:

  • Manage and prosecute patent applications in the United States and internationally.
  • Interact with clients and inventors throughout all stages of the patent lifecycle.
  • Conduct freedom-to-operate, infringement, and patentability analyses.
  • Support various other responsibilities and projects as needed or requested.

Requirements:

  • 3-8 years of patent prosecution experience, particularly in the Electrical & Computer Technologies space.
  • Strong background in patent law with hands-on experience in prosecution.
  • Ability to analyze technical and legal aspects of patent applications and provide clear advice.
  • Experience working on complex patent-related issues, particularly in cutting-edge fields.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with clients and colleagues.

Education:

  • A degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts.
  • Excellent collaboration and team-working skills.
  • Familiarity with machine learning, molecular biology, sequencing technologies, and gene editing is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of systems biology, immunology, and microscopy is a plus.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
