Intellectual Property Income Partner

A law firm in Washington, DC, is seeking a highly experienced Intellectual Property Income Partner with substantial expertise in global patent prosecution and opinion work in the life sciences sector. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in patent prosecution and counseling, including experience with licensing and agreement work. A superior academic record, excellent writing and oral communication skills, and a focus on life sciences, particularly biotech, are essential. Experience in pharma/biotech and a small amount of portable business are advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and oversee global patent prosecution efforts, specializing in life sciences and biotech fields.
• Provide expert legal counsel on patent matters, including drafting, reviewing, and managing patent applications and responses.
• Offer strategic opinions on complex patent issues to ensure robust intellectual property protection for clients.
• Manage and negotiate patent licensing and agreement processes, ensuring compliance and favorable terms.
• Cultivate and maintain strong client relationships, providing strategic advice and tailored solutions on intellectual property matters.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including scientists and business professionals, to address and meet client needs.
• Stay updated on developments in patent law and life sciences to deliver cutting-edge legal strategies and advice.
• Mentor and guide junior attorneys and staff in intellectual property law and practice.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctorate (JD) required.
• PhD in biological sciences preferred.
• Must be licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in intellectual property law, with a strong focus on life sciences and biotech.
• Demonstrated expertise in global patent prosecution and counseling.
• Familiarity with patent licensing and agreement work preferred.
• Superior academic record with excellent written and oral communication skills.
