Job Overview: A law firm in Chicago, IL, seeks a skilled and experienced Real Estate Tax Attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a Juris Doctor degree, be licensed in Illinois, and possess 3-5 years of experience in property tax, preferably with knowledge of the Cook County tax assessment process.

Job Details:

  • Coordinating and managing property tax litigation files daily.
  • Timely preparation and filing of complaints and supporting evidence at three administrative levels (Assessor’s Office, Board of Review, Property Tax Appeal Board) and Circuit Courts.
  • Analyzing properties, reviewing, and drafting briefs for various property types, including real estate development projects.
  • Preparing and filing property tax dispute documents in multiple counties, including collar counties.
  • Monitoring and assisting with complaint preparation for tax objection cases filed in the Circuit Court of Cook County.
  • Court call management and document production for tax objection cases.
  • Communication with county representatives regarding hearings, scheduling issues, settlements, refunds, and related matters.
  • Assisting with tax incentive and property tax exemption applications.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor degree.
  • Licensed in Illinois.
  • 3-5 years of experience in property tax, preferably with knowledge of the Cook County tax assessment process.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills.
