Job Overview:
A renowned law firm, located in Charlotte, NC, is looking to hire a skilled Patent Agent to join their Patent Prosecution & Litigation team. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in either electrical engineering or mechanical engineering and experience with patent prosecution. Duties:

  • Draft and file patent applications for clients in the electrical engineering, software, or mechanical fields.
  • Conduct prior art searches and patentability assessments.
  • Provide technical analysis and support during patent litigation matters.
  • Work closely with clients to understand their technological innovations and offer strategic advice on patent protection.
  • Prepare responses to office actions issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Assist in the preparation and prosecution of patent claims across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of patent laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with attorneys on complex legal issues related to intellectual property.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3-6 years of experience in patent prosecution, including application drafting.
  • Registered to practice before the USPTO.
  • Degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical field such as physics or mathematics.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Experience in patent litigation or familiarity with other intellectual property areas is a plus.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related technical field.

Certifications:

  • USPTO registration is required.
