A law firm seeks a Litigation Associate to join its team in Chicago, IL. The ideal candidate will bring between one to four years of experience in commercial litigation, corporate law, or finance law. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a diverse range of clients, including financial institutions and corporate entities while handling complex litigation matters.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in a variety of commercial litigation matters, including contract disputes, enforcement proceedings, and restructuring.
  • Advise clients on regulatory compliance matters, including Uniform Commercial Code and federal/state regulations.
  • Attend mediations, and depositions (both expert and lay witnesses), and represent clients in hearings, arbitrations, and other legal proceedings.
  • Draft and negotiate pleadings, motions, forbearance agreements, restructuring documents, and settlement agreements.
  • Manage multiple litigation cases simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Engage in active settlement negotiations and assist with case strategy development.
  • Maintain excellent communication with clients, opposing counsel, and other parties involved in litigation.

Requirements:

  • 1-4 years of experience in commercial litigation, corporate law, or finance law.
  • Proven ability to handle a variety of litigation matters, with experience in financial institutions or secured lender-related cases being a plus.
  • Strong academic background and a solid understanding of legal research, writing, and case preparation.
  • Ability to navigate complex legal matters and competing work demands while maintaining a high level of productivity and accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate with internal teams and clients.
  • Must be a member in good standing or eligible to waive into the Illinois Bar.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Illinois State Bar or eligibility to waive in.

Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and research abilities.
  • Proficient in drafting and negotiating legal documents including motions, pleadings, and settlement agreements.
  • Experience with client interaction, including advising and representing clients in litigation matters.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong advocacy and motion practice skills.
  • In-depth understanding of business and financial market issues.
