Job Overview: A law firm in McLean, VA, is seeking a highly qualified Patent Agent to work closely with partners and senior associates on various patent-related matters, including domestic and foreign patent preparation and prosecution, freedom-to-operate and patentability analyses, legal opinion drafting, and patent office litigation support. The ideal candidate should possess 2-4 years of relevant experience and hold advanced degrees in biotechnology, cell or molecular biology, bioengineering, biochemistry, or related fields. This position requires a Juris Doctor (JD) from a top-tier law firm and admission to one or more State Bars, with all candidates being admitted to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office.

Duties:

  • Collaborate with partners and senior associates in the firm to prepare and prosecute domestic and foreign patents.
  • Conduct freedom-to-operate and patentability analyses to support client needs.
  • Research and draft legal opinions for clients on patent-related matters.
  • Assist with patent office litigation matters, including case preparation and support.

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of experience in a law firm or in-house, involving drafting patent applications and assisting with drafting legal opinions.
  • Ph.D. or Masters degree in biotechnology, cell or molecular biology, bioengineering, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Technical experience in biotechnology, molecular biology, and/or biochemistry.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from a top-tier law firm.
  • Admission to one or more State Bars.
  • Admitted to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office.
