A law firm seeks an experienced Patent Counsel to join its growing team in San Antonio, TX. This position is ideal for individuals with at least two years of patent prosecution experience, particularly in areas such as 5G, Wi-Fi, artificial intelligence (AI), processor systems, and RF technologies. The Patent Counsel will play a critical role in evaluating the patentability of cutting-edge innovations, drafting patent applications, and collaborating with clients and other legal professionals to guide intellectual property strategy. Duties:

  • Assess the patentability of technologies in areas such as wireless communications, AI, image processing, and RF front-end
  • Draft and prosecute patent applications for groundbreaking technologies
  • Work closely with clients to develop and manage patent portfolios
  • Assist in responding to USPTO actions and managing ongoing patent prosecution processes
  • Provide strategic patent advice on portfolio management and IP protection
  • Collaborate with researchers, inventors, and attorneys to evaluate innovations and technologies
  • Contribute to the growth of the practice, with the potential to take on leadership responsibilities
  • Keep up-to-date with emerging technologies and trends within your practice areas

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • At least two years of experience in patent prosecution
  • Registered with the USPTO or eligible to register
  • Admission to the Bar in a relevant jurisdiction, or eligibility to waive in
  • Strong background in 5G, Wi-Fi, AI, processor systems, and wireless technologies
  • Excellent verbal, written, and analytical skills

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar discipline

Certifications:

  • USPTO registration required (or eligibility to register)
  • Bar admission (or eligibility to waive in)

Skills:

  • Proficiency in patent prosecution and familiarity with USPTO processes
  • Expertise in wireless technologies, AI, and related fields
  • Strong ability to manage patent portfolios and provide strategic advice
  • Excellent research and communication abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clients and other legal professionals
  • Experience in autonomous vehicles, robotics, computer vision, or natural language processing is a plus
