Job Overview

A prominent law firm is seeking a highly motivated Technical Advisor or Junior Patent Agent to join its Chemical/Pharmaceutical/Biotech team. This is an exciting opportunity for a scientist with expertise in life sciences to transition into patent law. The successful candidate will be involved in patent prosecution, working under the supervision of an Intellectual Property Partner and alongside a team of legal professionals.

Duties

• Apply advanced life sciences concepts, particularly in molecular biology and/or cell biology.
• Study and analyze scientific or technical documents.
• Draft patent applications.
• Assist in prosecuting patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• Perform prior art searches and analyses, including landscape, patentability, and freedom-to-operate reviews.

Requirements

• Strong writing, research, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in reviewing and analyzing scientific and technical documentation.

Education

• Advanced degree (PhD) in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Genetics, Cell Biology, or a closely related biological science.

Certifications and Skills

• No specific certifications required, though experience in patent prosecution or related legal fields is beneficial.
• Expertise in life sciences research and strong analytical skills.
