A law firm located in Brunswick, ME is seeking an experienced Attorney to handle subrogation cases on the Plaintiff's side. The successful candidate will manage a docket of large property and auto-related losses in active litigation, along with smaller vehicle damage claims. The role requires court appearances in the state of licensure, autonomous case management from inception through trial or settlement, and strong organizational and time-management skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage subrogation cases from inception through resolution.
  • Represent clients in court appearances as required in the state of licensure.
  • Handle a docket of large property and auto-related losses, as well as smaller vehicle damage claims.
  • Work autonomously with limited supervision, taking cases from acceptance through trial or settlement.
  • Interface with insurance adjusters, opposing counsel, witnesses, experts, and other relevant parties in a professional manner.
  • Collaborate with peers and staff to gather necessary data and research support.
  • Provide direction to assigned support personnel (e.g., Paralegals) to ensure thorough and timely case preparation.
  • Manage case and trial calendars to meet deadlines.
  • Conduct legally sound research for liability and recovery potential.
  • Produce and review correspondence, pleadings, discovery documents, depositions, and affidavits.
  • Prepare corporate and expert witnesses for trial.
  • Maintain effective communication with all parties involved, including clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel.
  • Demonstrate respect and professionalism in all interactions.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to practice law in the state of licensure (ME).
  • 3+ years of experience in Subrogation and/or Insurance Defense preferred; all civil litigation experience will be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of legal principles, procedures, and practices related to litigation.
  • Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools such as Westlaw and Lexis-Nexis.
  • Ability to analyze complex legal issues and develop effective strategies.
  • Strong negotiation skills with a focus on achieving favorable outcomes for clients.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate with tact and respect, maintaining high ethical standards.
