Job Overview:

A prestigious law firm based in Reston, VA is seeking a skilled Associate Attorney to join its Intellectual Property team, specializing in the biotech and pharmaceutical sectors. This role involves supervising patent prosecution and portfolio management, providing legal guidance on due diligence and freedom-to-operate (FTO) matters, and working with global clients on complex intellectual property issues.

Duties:

• Oversee patent prosecution and related processes for clients in the life sciences field.
• Supervise and train technical specialists and junior attorneys in day-to-day operations.
• Provide strategic counsel on due diligence, freedom-to-operate analysis, and patent portfolio management.
• Collaborate with large clients to manage extensive patent portfolios on a global scale.
• Lead client meetings and deliver tailored legal solutions for complex intellectual property challenges.

Requirements:

• A minimum of 4-5 years of experience in intellectual property law, particularly in patent prosecution and counseling.
• Demonstrated experience supervising and mentoring junior team members.
• Strong ability to manage large-scale client portfolios and conduct high-level client interactions.

Education:

• A background in a hard science discipline, particularly molecular/cellular biology, gene therapy, or antibody technologies.
• Advanced degrees (e.g., PhD or MS) in a related field are highly preferred.

Certifications:

• Active license to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• Admission to the Virginia State Bar.
