Job Overview:
A leading law firm is looking for an experienced Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Associate Attorney with 5-7 years of experience to join its team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on complex privacy and cybersecurity matters, including litigation and transactional work. The successful candidate will have expertise in state and federal privacy laws, as well as experience with breach response, compliance counseling, and risk management.

Location:

  • Austin TX

Duties:

  • Advise clients on a wide range of privacy and cybersecurity matters, including compliance with state and federal privacy laws (e.g., CCPA, GLBA, HIPAA)
  • Handle privacy litigation, including class action lawsuits
  • Draft and negotiate vendor and customer service agreements, particularly in the data privacy and cybersecurity sectors
  • Manage breach response, compliance counseling, and risk management initiatives
  • Collaborate with internal teams and clients to develop effective privacy strategies
  • Contribute to business development and client relationship management
  • Participate in professional development and knowledge-sharing initiatives

Requirements:

  • 5-7 years of experience in data privacy, cybersecurity, or related fields
  • Proven experience in privacy litigation or transactional work, particularly in drafting vendor and business service agreements
  • Strong knowledge of state privacy laws, including sector-specific regulations and breach reporting laws, as well as federal laws such as CCPA, GLBA, HIPAA
  • Experience in breach response, risk management, or compliance counseling
  • Admission to the State Bar
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects efficiently

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the State Bar
  • CIPP/US certification preferred, but not required

Skills:

  • Expertise in privacy and cybersecurity law
  • Excellent litigation and transactional drafting skills
  • Strong understanding of breach response and risk management
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and client management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
