Job Overview:
A respected law firm based in Greenwich, CT is seeking a skilled and motivated Patent Advisor to join its expanding practice focused on intellectual property in the life sciences. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced legal professionals to guide innovative clients through the complex landscape of patent protection, particularly in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and related disciplines. The ideal candidate brings a blend of scientific expertise and legal acumen, with experience in managing and advancing patent portfolios both domestically and abroad.

Duties:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of inventions to determine their potential for patent protection across various scientific domains

  • Draft and file patent applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

  • Manage ongoing prosecution of U.S. patents and collaborate with international counsel on global filings

  • Support transactional due diligence and assist in the strategic development of intellectual property assets

  • Perform detailed legal and technical research to support complex IP matters

  • Partner with legal teams, scientific stakeholders, and clients to shape patent strategies aligned with business goals

  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and liaise with external counsel on specialized IP projects

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in patent prosecution, particularly within the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or medical device sectors

  • Demonstrated proficiency in managing patent filings from initial application through grant

  • Familiarity with both U.S. and international patent processes

  • Ability to analyze technical data and provide insightful legal guidance on patentability and IP risk

Education:

  • Ph.D. in a relevant life sciences field (e.g., molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology)

Certifications:

  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), or eligible to sit for the exam shortly

Skills:

  • Strong foundation in biological or chemical sciences

  • Clear and precise communication abilities, both written and verbal

  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic legal environment

  • Strategic thinker with attention to detail and organizational strength

  • Comfort interacting with legal professionals, scientists, and corporate decision-makers
