Job Overview:
A nationally recognized real estate and financial services law firm is seeking a Litigation Attorney to join its Midwest Litigation group. This role involves handling residential and commercial foreclosures, title disputes, title curative actions, and other real estate and financial services matters. The attorney will represent clients in routine and contested hearings, develop case strategies, draft pleadings, motions, and discovery, and conduct settlement negotiations. The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of real estate and foreclosure litigation experience and be looking for growth within a positive, supportive team environment. This position offers remote work with a flexible schedule, providing exposure to a wide variety of cases while maintaining a strong work/life balance.

Location:

  • Chicago, IL

Duties:

  • Manage a caseload of contested matters on behalf of residential and commercial mortgage lenders and investors.
  • Appear in court to argue motions necessary for the successful completion of foreclosure, title disputes, HOA/COA disputes, and other real estate matters.
  • Communicate regularly with clients to provide case updates and assist with case resolution.
  • Analyze loan files, title reports, and other documents related to cases.
  • Draft motions, prepare written discovery, and formulate responses.
  • Develop case strategies and handle settlement negotiations autonomously.

Requirements:

  • Must be licensed in Illinois and Ohio and in good standing with both the Illinois Bar and Ohio Bar.
  • 1-3 years of relevant litigation experience involving mortgage foreclosure, creditor rights, and civil litigation (preferred).
  • Knowledge of the Ohio Mortgage Foreclosure process is required.
  • Familiarity with Illinois and Ohio Code of Civil Procedure and Supreme Court Rules.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in Illinois and Ohio, in good standing with the respective state bars.

Skills:

  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of professionalism and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, staff, and management.
