Job Overview:

A distinguished law firm located in New York City, NY, is seeking a skilled Patent Agent with a strong background in life sciences. This role involves working on diverse and challenging projects, including drafting and prosecuting patents, conducting intellectual property portfolio management, and advising clients on their patent rights. Job Duties:

• Prepare and prosecute patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• Draft and submit Office Action responses and communicate with Examiners.
• Conduct invention intake sessions with clients and prospective clients.
• Perform patentability and clearance searches, and draft related memoranda and opinions.
• Provide portfolio counseling and assist in the management of intellectual property portfolios.
• Assist in preparing infringement, invalidity, and freedom-to-operate opinions.
• Conduct diligence reviews for intellectual property matters.
• Stay updated on advancements in life sciences to provide informed advice to clients.
• Collaborate with internal legal teams to ensure comprehensive patent services.
• Support senior attorneys in meeting deadlines and filing requirements.

Job Requirements:

• USPTO registration is mandatory.
• A minimum of 2-4 years of experience in patent prosecution.
• Demonstrated expertise in life sciences and molecular biology; experience in organic chemistry is a plus.
• Proficiency in patent preparation and prosecution, including familiarity with USPTO rules and filing procedures.
• Experience with patent drafting and searching.

Education:

• Graduate degree in Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related field required.
• PhD preferred but candidates with a bachelor’s degree and relevant research experience will be considered.
• Life Sciences and/or Molecular Biology experience required. Organic chemistry is a plus.

Certifications:

• USPTO Registration Number is required.

Skills:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Pro; Salesforce knowledge preferred.
